 A BIG 150TH YEAR for ST. JOHN’S CHURCH, HIGHBRIDGE

In 2009 St. John’s Church, Highbridge has celebrated 150 years since its consecration.  The congregation of St. John’s have holded a weeklong series of events to mark this momentous milestone!

 

Celebrations commenced on Saturday the 13th June with a Victorian Children’s Tea Party.

There was An Exhibition of Highbridge Life from many of the local organisations and businesses entitled 'St. John's Church in Highbridge/Highbridge in St. John's Church', open throughout the week during the afternoon from 2pm-4pm.  The evening events included:

Memory Monday (15th June from 7.30pm) - with wedding and baptism records available, and a chance to share momentos of weddings or baptisms that you have attended at St. John’s.

Coastline Singers (Tuesday 16th June 7.30pm) – a local group of singers performed their latest selection of dance-themed music!

 

Anecdotal Alan (Wednesday 17th June 7.30pm) -  Alan Cook, the Diocesan Music Advisor, and past organist of St. John’s Highbridge, lead an evening of music, stories and anecdotes of St. John’s.

 

Old Highbridge (Thursday 18th June) 7.30pm)  - a treat of historical slides, shown by June Thomas.

 

Saturday 20th June 2pm-4pm The Annual Church Summer Fayre was held at St. John’s School, Highbridge.

 

On Sunday the 21st June, the culmination of the celebrations, there was

A Service of Celebration at 10am led by the Bishop of Taunton with a Bring and Share Lunch - which was an opportunity for people to come and meet the Bishop.

In the afternoon at 3pm there was a ‘Songs of Praise’ service  in Apex Park.
