Date Time Event Details
Sunday 20th April 9.30am Palm Sunday We celebrate the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, with a donkey-led procession, briefly including parts of Church Street, and then the service moves on to remember the passion story, reminding us of the events of the week to come as Jesus approaches his crucifixion
Monday 21st April 8pm Night prayer Each of these short times of prayer and reflection will follow on from a time of quiet contempaltion at 7.30pm as the “Journey of Easter” tableaux are illuminated with candles. Tuesday 22nd April 8pm Night prayer
Wednesday 23rd April 9.30am Holy Communion Our weekly time of Holy Communion, this week with a Holy Week theme.
8pm Night prayer See above
Thursday 24th April, Maundy Thursday 7.30pm Last Supper and Vigil (until midnight) One of the last acts Jesus undertook before his death was to wash the feet of those he loved. This service of holy communion begins with a symbolic act of foot washing. We then move on to a time of preparation for the day to come: we strip the church of its decorations (Altar cloth etc), and then begin a time of silent reflection interspersed with readings and quiet singing until the silent conclusion at midnight. You do not need to stay for the whole four and a half hours, but can come and go as you please after the openign time of communion.
Friday 25th April (Good Friday) 10am Family Service A fairly traditional Good Friday family service during which we recall the way of the cross, and re-enact some of the moving scenes from a child-friendly perspective.
11.30am Walk of Witness, beginning at Our Lady and English Martyrs, Highbridge Road This is a ‘Churches Together’ event. Please have a look at the churches together web site for further information.
2pm Hour of Reflection, “At the foot of the cross” An hour of waiting and watching, praying and sharing in the events that led to the crucifixion of Jesus, ending promptly at 3pm.
Saturday 26th April (Holy Saturday) 8pm Lighting of the Easter Fire A traditional act of worship, kindling the Light of Easter and bringing that light into the church to celebrate the start of Easter Day, a time of joy and praise.
Sunday 27th April (Easter Day) 8am Said Communion (traditional words) Our normal Sunday morning BCP service of Holy Communion
9.30am Holy Communion and Easter Egg Hunt The joy and praise of Easter Say, as we celebrate the risen Christ and give thanks to God for all the mercy and grace we receive through his Son.
