Marriage

It is the Law that either or both partners must live in the parish belonging to the Parish Church or have a qualifying connection to the parish at which they would like to be married. We normally need at least 6-7 weeks notice for a wedding so that due legal process can be carried out. Fees may vary from year to year, please contact the clergy for details. Couples are invited to a preparation day early in the year in which they are to be married. The day covers reflection on Christian marriage, some practical arrangements and choices, including music and flowers. Those persons who are divorced and seeking to remarry are invited to explore the possiblity at St John's. For those wishing to supplement a Civil Wedding, or if other legal criteria cannot be met, a Service of Dedication (commonly called a Marriage Blessing) is also available.
We are also happy to help those who wish to renew their marriage vows, for example, at a special anniversary. This may be done as part of a regular church service, a special service similar to a Service of Dedication, or at a simple private ceremony in church.
